Pastoral Counsellor
BA. BD. (Pret.), D.Min

Hans completed his BA. BD. (Theology) at the University of Pretoria in 1968. He was a full time minister for 23 years. During 1983 – 1986 he obtained his Doctorate in Pastoral Counselling at the Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia in the United States of America.

He has been practicing as a counsellor on a full time basis at his practice in Centurion, South Africa, since 1991. Hans was happily married to Mariette Dreyer for 47 years. They had four children. The youngest died in 1994. The other three are all married and are “doing their own thing”.

His wife, Mariette, died 20 June 2014 after 47 blisful years.  Being alone was pure hell and 18 months later he re-married  Peninna.  They are also happily married.

As a workaholic and go-getter Hans suffered from burnout on several occasions and had to learn how to live with these conditions and how to prevent them. During 1991 he suffered from serious major (bipolar) depression.

Ever since that experience he has specialized in counselling people with stress, burnout and depression. There is no one who knows what a depression sufferer has to endure. Having suffered in the same way, he is in a position to assist others using a genuine, working knowledge that he can apply to his patients.
